Snow (Ice) Day "Fun"dant

Fondue and now fondant...my recent posts have a theme running, huh?

Mason and I are home today semi-enjoying a snow (ice) day. We had freezing rain all day yesterday and sleet all day today. Mase was jazzed to run out in the 'snow' until he realized it was pelting him on the face. Sleet doesn't seem as much fun as snow. But, check out how much sleet we have!

I said we are "semi-enjoying" our day because today has been filled with tantrums, fit throwing, a lack of naps and an annoying beagle. So, in order to get control of my own household again I got out the vinegar spray to keep the beagle in check and involved Mase in the activity of baking cake. I've been wanting to try my hand at fondant icing, it looks soooo fun and colorful.
I asked Mase what kind of cake he want and he picked pink. I asked him how to decorate it and he said "Wiff bones pwease. Gween ones and bwoo ones." Umm...ok. He clearly did not inherit my sense of color. Either way, pink, green and blue with bones is what he got.
First we started by making the cake. (For sake of easiness I chose a box cake, Elissa please don't throw rotten fruit at me!!). :) So far so good, a mild accident (aka Mason grabbing the middle to eat) but nothing I couldn't patch with butter cream icing. (Or so I thought)
The top layer turned out better and we were pros at making fondant bones. Mase wanted to 'cut stripes' so I let him have a go with those.
After the layers cooled I whipped up some yummy buttercream icing. I think Mase liked it.
I buttercreamed (is that a word) the two layers together and that, my friends, started the downward spiral of hope for a cute cake. I thought it would be cute as a square, why not?? I cut off the round parts to square up the cake....
..and ended up with this!!!!???!! Oh dear goodness. What in the world is this atrocity??
Determined to finish I started mixing the blue fondant together. Can someone explain why they say "Gloves optional"?
So here is the final..um...cake? A pile of dog bones? I dunno.
I know it's green and blue and has bones. Outside of that I'm as confused as you all are.

Fondue Baby!

Nick and I are lovers of fondue. We like the cheese kind, bring on the broth and don't forget the chocolate. We'll eat it all, we'll eat it as fast as we can and we'll eat until we bust!

We finally bought our own fondue pot....cooker...um I don't know the actual name. The thing-a-ma-jig that you use for fondue. It's blue and pretty, thank you IKEA! We sent the little man to bed and enjoyed a nice evening of fondued (is that a word) meat and veggies. And OH MAN was it good! Our fave fondue is the Mojo from The Melting Pot. We found the recipe online and gave it our best attempt. It was tasty to say the least.

Nick is quite the impatient fondue eater. He likes it now, right now, right this very second. For those of you that fondue you understand that it just doesn't work that way. He eventually slowed down...not sure if he realized his fate or if the beer made him move slower. (I kid, I kid)
Doesn't he look happy?

Here I am fonduing it with my classic "Steph Head Tilt". What is a picture without a head tilt?

Wha??!!

Skate Party

Last Saturday was a double-header birthday party day! The morning was filled with bouncing and flipping at a gymnastics party and the night was filled with ice skating.

Nick was a whiz on the ice and the other parents were secretly wondering if he was a 'hockey player'. Good stuff. :)

Mase had a great time with his friend Logan!

YIIPPPPEEEEEEEEEE

This was pretty much how Mason skated the whole time. Poor Nick, his back was killing him by the end.

Logan had a good time too and was quiet the trooper. There were times he was really getting along well on his own with only the help of his red walker.

No more diapers. :(

A new law (CPSIA), which goes into effect February 10th, is forcing me to close up the diaper shop. :( There are a lot of details in the law that I won't bore you with. (However if you would like more info please email me, I'm happy to share.)

So long gone are the days of Steph's Diaper Factory. It's time for a new chapter, right? In keeping with my SDF brand I've decided to rename my business to Steph's Design Factory. I came up with a fancy new logo and tried to incorporate the pink and cogs (each flower has a cog) from my last logo. Here is the final design:

YEAH! I'm very excited about my new adventure!!! Currently I'm selling makeup bags, cotton/hemp coasters and trivets. I hope to add reusable bags to my selection soon.

Here are a few of my latest creation:

If you're looking for something fun for yourself or for a gift let me know, I can always accept custom orders. :)
